BRITISH LOVE OF FISH & CHIPS INSPIRES NEW TABLEWARE FROM POOLE POTTERY (08.04.10)
In harmony with the Pottery's ability to harbour nostalgia through design is the new tableware and serve ware series titled 'Fish and Chips'.
Inspired by the great British love for fish and chips it draws inspiration from old newspaper print which once held cod, chips and mushy peas.
The collection compromises of a dinner plate, a bread and butter plate, a pie dish, a mushy peas bowl, a teacup and saucer and an exclusively designed ceramic chip tray.
Carefully created to bring alive the story of Poole Pottery and the Dorset coastline, just as 2010 marks the 150th year of the marriage of the British classic Fish and Chips.
It has been designed by award-winning designer Andrew Tanner, who was honoured with the British Council Design award 2010. The 'Fish and Chips' surface design evokes memories of the days when newspaper was used to lovingly wrap this national favorite.
What was once a meal to be eaten out doors with your fingers is now a culinary classic, served by Michelin star chefs in some of Britain’s top restaurants. What batter (better) way to celebrate the nation's most famous dish than on a British made and British designed plate?
‘Fish and Chips’ offer a true souvenir from England whilst creating a conversation piece on any table. Get the salt and vinegar ready and the champagne on ice!
Also launching by Poole Pottery for Spring/Summer 2010 is ‘Teatime Teasers’ a charming earthenware mug collection also designed by Andrew Tanner. The series of six different mugs plays upon the theme of teatime quizzes and trivia in a bid to raise a smile in the workplace or office whilst testing your colleague’s ability to unravel the clues. On one side is an etched style pictorial quiz to the slogan; whilst on the reverse the answer is revealed. The range uses different British sayings from ‘Fancy Pants’, ‘More Tea Vicar’ and 'One Lump or Two'.
Poole Pottery will be showcasing the new designs as part of the Lifestyle Group of companies at the Exclusively Housewares exhibition on 8th-9th June. See them on Stand 352.
